Movember on the Bike: Mustache Jerseys and Ride Ideas for November
Movember is a yearly campaign in which people grow a mustache through November to raise awareness of men's health. As a cyclist, you can grow one, ride with friends who are growing one, or simply wear a mustache jersey for the month. Our Hairy Mustache and Keep Calm and Mustache designs come in short and long sleeve.

What is Movember?
Movember is an annual event in which people grow mustaches during the month of November. The Movember Foundation, formed in 2003 and based in Melbourne, Australia, says the work it funds covers mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. It began with a group of friends growing mustaches together, and its site now says it has funded more than 1,320 projects around the world.
Online Cycling Gear is not connected with the Movember Foundation, and we do not collect donations. To sign up, start a fundraising page or donate, go straight to movember.com. What we can help with is the fun part: a jersey that makes the mustache theme obvious from fifty meters away.
How can cyclists take part in Movember?

Movember's own site lists a few ways in: grow a Mo, move your body or host your own event. The movement challenge is called Move, and on the US site it asks you to run or walk 60 miles over the month, in one go or bit by bit. The number is there to remember the 60 men lost to suicide around the world every hour.
That Move page names running and walking, not cycling, so check movember.com before you count your rides toward it. You can still do plenty on a bike. Grow a mustache and wear it on every ride, or host a group ride for friends and point everyone to their own Movember page to sign up or give.
There is also a gentler way in. Wearing a mustache jersey for the month is a fun way to show you are in, and it gets people asking about it at the café stop.
Which mustache cycling jerseys can you wear?
We have two mustache designs, and between them they cover the whole kit.
The Men's Hairy Mustache Short Sleeve Cycling Jersey is the loud one. The same design comes as the Hairy Mustache Gel Padded Cycling Bib, the Hairy Mustache Gel Padded Cycling Shorts, the Hairy Mustache Gel Padded Cycling Bib-Tights and the Hairy Mustache 2 Piece Cycling Kit, which pairs the jersey with matching padded bottoms.
The Keep Calm and Mustache design is calmer, as the name promises. It comes as a short sleeve jersey and a long sleeve jersey.
Which one to pick comes down to how loud you want to be. If you are growing a real mustache, the Keep Calm design lets it take the attention. Riders whose upper lip is not cooperating can let the Hairy Mustache kit make up for it from shoulder to knee. A group can mix the two as well, with Hairy Mustache for the riders at the front and Keep Calm for everyone else.

The jerseys use 140 GSM moisture-wicking polyester with 110 GSM mesh side panels, three back pockets, a full-length hidden zip and a silicone waist gripper. The bib has a 9D silicone gel pad and wide 45 mm leg grippers. Our jerseys have a club fit cut and run small, so size up if you are between sizes and check the size chart against your own measurements first.
What should you wear for a November ride?
November in most of the US means late fall: cold starts, short days and the odd warm afternoon. A long sleeve jersey is the easy base. The Keep Calm and Mustache long sleeve is made in the same wicking fabric as our short sleeve jerseys by default, and you can add the optional thermal fleece lining through the customization options for colder mornings.
Below the waist, the Hairy Mustache bib tights keep the theme going all the way to the ankles. If you prefer the short sleeve design, wear it over a base layer with arm warmers, and take a look at our guide on what to wear cycling at every temperature.
Daylight saving ends on November 1, so after-work rides finish in the dark much sooner. Lights front and back and something reflective matter far more than any jersey once the sun goes down.
How do you plan a Movember group ride?
- Pick a date late in the month, when the mustaches have had time to grow and look their best in the photo.
- Choose a route everyone can ride together, with a café stop in the middle.
- Agree on the kit. One mustache design looks sharp in a group photo, but any jersey is welcome.
- Order early. Every jersey is made to order, so collect sizes in October and order together.
- Send everyone who wants to give or fundraise to movember.com, so the money goes straight there.
- Take the group photo at the café, while the kit is still clean.

On the day, ride at the pace of the slowest rider so the group stays together, and agree on a regrouping point after any long climb. A flat loop works better than a hilly one if some of the group ride only now and then. A shared kit order can also clear free shipping on orders over $125. If a size is wrong, non-customized items come with 60-day store-credit returns, as our returns policy explains.
Do you need a mustache to wear a mustache jersey?
No. The jersey carries the joke on its own, so a clean-shaven rider can wear one just as well. Our designs are men's cuts, but the product pages let you request a different size or gender through the customization options, so anyone in the group can wear the same design. Customized orders are final, so check the size chart before you choose.
